AFCB
Agua Fria Multi-Species Conservation Bank
Agua Fria Multi-Species Conservation Bank consists of hilly grass-covered terrain in far western Merced County. The wildlife preserve is heavily populated by the Burrowing Owl, Kit Fox and other species. A total of up to 3,000 acres is available in Phase 2 of the AFCB. Since the resolution of wildlife issues is now often at the forefront of the development approval process, AFCB mitigation credit purchases help to expedite entitlements.
The AFCB is authorized to sell credits that represent habitat values that may already exist or will be enhanced, restored, or created at the bank. Credits are sold to project proponents who are required to provide compensation for unavoidable loss of habitat due to economic development or other impacts, where avoidance or on-site mitigation is not feasible or desirable.
